Our History
Consalo Family Farms was founded in 1927 by William Consalo Sr. in Medford, NJ. At just 20 years old, William started by buying limited amounts of fresh produce from neighboring farms and would travel over 100 miles every day to sell the crops at the Newark Farmers Market. William’s passion for produce came from his parents, Vincenzo Consalo and Pasqualina (Nillie) Consalo. Vincenzo and Pasqualina came to the United States as immigrants from Calabria, Italy in 1889.
He was able to build many relationships along the way and gain a reputation for fair dealing. To keep up with the increasing market demands and the company’s expansion opportunities, William moved his total operations to Vineland in April of 1962. With the help of his 4 sons, he turned his company into one of finest growing, shipping and agricultural supply businesses in New Jersey.
The company’s growth and expansion was rapid, with a new warehouse built in 1966, and a new cooler built in 1968. William Consalo was recognized by United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association receiving the Produce Man of the Year Award and by The Chamber of Commerce receiving the Outstanding Agriculture Business Award.
William’s son Andy Consalo was in the business his whole life and built a stellar reputation for quality product and ethics in the industry. His relationships earned him the trust and confidence in an ever-widening market of satisfied customers. Andy’s son, Skip Consalo, represents the family’s third generation in the business. Today, the Consalo family is universally recognized for its leadership, dedication, and family commitment to providing high quality fruit and produce for North America’s tables. Now in its 4th generation, with Chelsea, Anthony, and Sarah Consalo, the family continues to be firmly committed to the ideals of William and Andy Consalo and the dreams they inspired.
